Peru´s Minister of Foreign Commerce and Tourism, Eduardo Ferreyros, officially presented the Peruvian participants who will run in the 2018 Dakar Rally. The event, held in the Hall of Mirrors of the Municipality of Lima, had the presence of the Mayor of Lima, Luis Castañeda Lossio and representatives of the Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Environment, Peruvian Institute of Sport (IPD) and the Ministry of the Interior.

"The Dakar Rally returns to Peru after five years to delight motorsport fans. This race is a great platform for the image of Peru to be promoted in the world and to demonstrate that we can organize large-scale sporting events. The dunes of the coast, the valleys of the mountains and the high plateau of Puno will shine", said Minister Ferreyros.

The 21 Peruvian drivers and co-drivers, who will be in the race in 19 vehicles, will try to leave the name of Peru at the top. The athletes will participate in four categories: Cars, bikes, quads and SSV. The number increased compared to the 2017 edition and one of the reasons is that the race will take place in Peru.

The most important racers of Peru in the rally are Nicolás Fuchs, who finished 12 in 2017, and Alexis Hernández, who finished in 8th place in 2016. Both riders were in the Cross-Country World Championship preparing for this event. On the other hand, Fernando Ferrand, father and son, and Carlo Vellutino will run for the ninth consecutive time.
